Travis McKeveny
Travis McKeveny & The Famous Doctor Scanlon Band
Travis McKeveny was a songwriter from Blue Point, NY. His albums Last Years Leaves and October Porches & Second Hand Fears established him as a major talent on the northeast folk circuit. His wonderfully detailed lyrical approach could evoke humor and heartache in equal measure. The song “1901: A Canyon Odyssey,” which he co-wrote with Andy Falco, was included on the Grammy winning album Laws of Gravity by The Infamous Stringdusters. Shortly before the pandemic in 2020, Travis formed The Famous Doctor Scanlon Band as an outlet for the new songs he was working on. This batch of tunes was different; they fearlessly explored new genres and lyrical themes - a major shift in Travis’ writing style. He titled the new album From Dublin To Duluth and was sure that he had made his masterpiece. The journey took a tragic turn in September 2021 when Travis died unexpectedly at the age of 35. The band, led by his father, Gerry McKeveny, committed to bringing Travis’ album to fruition. Guided by demo recordings, live videos and memories of conversations, the band headed into the studio. The recording process was an intense but ultimately uplifting emotional experience. The end result is an 11 song album that honors Travis’ original vision and brings it to life.
